New Generation - Passion for Ceramics
29 Mar 2026 to
06 Dec 2026
From 29 March to 6 December 2026, you will discover the work of a new generation of international ceramic artists. In the exhibition New Generation – Passion for Ceramics, you will see how young makers approach material, form and storytelling. What drives them? Where do they find inspiration, who taught them their craft, and which dreams do they want to realise? You will notice similarities and differences between artists from various countries and experience how versatile ceramics can be today.
Stories in Form and Material
The sculptures of Ioana Tămaș (RO/NL) reflect emotional metamorphoses in a mythical visual language. Pointed legs, reminiscent of roots, repeatedly appear as symbols of growth and stability. Using lithographic techniques, she adds patterns and portraits, giving each form a personal character.
Oliver Neu (DE) works with porcelain and construction clay. His animal figures are fragile and evoke both existing and extinct species, without fully revealing them. Janina Myronowa (PL/UA) presents distorted, almost bulky characters with their own personalities. Through graphic elements, you read stories about family, partners and pets, while colour and black-and-white drawings intensify the emotion.
Memory, Identity and Landscape
Martijn Verzijl (NL) sees his ceramic objects as carriers of memories. Themes such as youth, loss and time resonate in his work. For Ioan Iosif (RO/DE), creating sculptures is a way of organising his thoughts. His simple, geometric forms invite reflection on life and society.
Camilla Hanney (IE/UK) explores themes such as time, sexuality and cultural identity through ceramics, sculpture and installations. With humour and sharpness, she refers to the body and questions traditional ideas of femininity. WONNE (NL) works from imagination, without a fixed outcome. His recent sculptures focus on the pursuit of strength and success, and the shadow side that comes with it.
Elena Genesio (IT/NL) collects clay from the river Maas and the Rhine floodplains in Tegelen. With this wild clay, she tells the story of the Dutch landscape and, in Alluvial Grounds, investigates the role of clay in water management and land reclamation. Sophie Anger (DE) focuses on fields of colour, spatial structures and breaking points. Her sculptural and ceramic forms refer to walls, building materials and everyday objects around us.
Ceramics in the Heart of Tegelen
During the period of the Passion Plays in Tegelen, Keramiekcentrum Tiendschuur offers a stage to this new generation of ceramic artists. The exhibition opens on Sunday 29 March at 2 pm with an introduction by Miranda Timmers MA, curator of Keramiekcentrum Tiendschuur Tegelen.
In addition, there are activities where you can meet the makers:
- Presentation and guided tour by Oliver Neu on Sunday 19 April from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm
- Workshop by Ioan Iosif on Sunday 26 April from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm
- Workshop by Ioana Tămaș on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October from 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm
You do not just step into an exhibition, but into the world of young makers who tell their stories through clay.
