Biketour
The starting point of the route is at the reconstruction of the kollergang of a late medieval oil mill in Weert. Until the 1950's the original mill stood here to supply the inhabitants of Weert with oil. You'll partly cycle through the cross-border landscape of Kempen-Broek. This nature reserve is even more extensive than the Hoge Veluwe and lies between Cranendonck, Weert, Leudal and the Belgian border municipalities Hamont, Bocholt, Bree and Molenbeersel-Kinrooi. several years ago, the region around Weert was voted the greenest region in the world.
What might you encounter on the way?
Along the way you will come across plenty of beautiful sights that are worth a visit. Many of these places testify to the old agricultural character of the region, like the old monumental longitudinal farms that are so characteristic of this region. You will also find road crosses, old chapels, nine windmills, three water mills and a hydroelectric power station. Some of the windmills are open regularly and are still often in operation today.
