The banks of the Molengreend are grazed by galloways. In the summer and autumn, these banks are worth a stroll because of their colourful splendour. It is here that flowery vegetation is found in its purest form. On one of the islands there is a small breeding colony of cormorants in the spring. In June and July, the lake is used by moulting geese; these waterfowl cannot fly for several weeks and need quiet waters where no recreation takes place in order to survive this critical period of the year. In the winter months, this pond is also used by large numbers of ducks for a frost-free winter.
The 39.6 km cycle route maasplassen takes you past a number of recreational waters, including the Molengreend.
