Cycle route
Shrub heath alternates with arrowstraw, bentworm and bramble. There are many Scots pines but the intention is for them to gradually disappear and make way for a varied deciduous forest. The Scottish Highlanders lend a hand in management. They ensure that the heath does not become overgrown with trees. They also want to create more heathland. This is good for the nightjar, a rare species that has been breeding in the Laura woods for several years.
The Tungelroyse Beek is a watercourse in central Limburg. This stream originates near Hamont in Belgian Limburg and flows into the Meuse at Neer as Neerbeek. For years the brook was straightened to drain water to the Meuse as quickly as possible.
Nature and recreation area De IJzeren Man
The Nature and Recreation Area De IJzeren Man is part of the Kempen-Broek Border Park. This cross-border park, like a house, has several "rooms", each of which has something different to offer in terms of natural landscapes and natural values. One of these chambers is De IJzeren Man.
