Three generations of In de Kroon
Hubert and Heleen Smeets founded In de Kroon in October 1925. At the time, combining a patisserie with a lunchroom was unusual. Their focus on quality helped De Kroon grow into a well-known business. In 1963, their son Frans and his wife Agnes took over. They made De Kroon known throughout Limburg. Frank Smeets and Anouk Nizet have been at the helm since 1993. This means the third generation is now active in the family business.
Well-known flavours from the bakery
The Christoffeltaart and Limburgse vlaaien are among the best-known products. The Christoffeltaart was named the best in the Netherlands three times. In 2016, Frank also won the oliebollen test organised by Dagblad De Limburger.
Much of the food served in the lunchroom is also homemade, including croquettes and pastry cases filled with homemade veal ragout.
Always developing
Everything is prepared in house, both in the patisserie and in the lunchroom. Frank and his team continue to improve their recipes and regularly attend courses to learn about new techniques and products.
